South Korea Mandates New Food Label Regulations to Enhance Consumer Transparency

The South Korean government has introduced new regulations requiring food and beverage companies to clearly indicate any portion size reductions and the use of sweeteners on product labels. Starting January 1, 2025, companies must label changes in net weight or ingredient content, addressing concerns over 'shrinkflation.' Additionally, by January 1, 2026, products claiming to be 'zero-sugar' or 'sugar-free' must explicitly state if sweeteners are used and include related calorie information. The regulations aim to ensure consumers can make informed decisions and promote transparency in food and beverage labeling.
